The National Association of Evangelicals reaffirms its advocacy of “suitable legislation by the Congress of the United States which will strengthen the present Constitutional provision for the free exercise of religion in our national life.”

To this end we support Senate Joint Resolution No.1 (SJR-1) which would provide for an Amendment to the United States Constitution as follows: “Nothing contained in this Constitution shall abridge the right of persons lawfully assembled in any public building which is supported in whole or in part through the expenditure of public funds to participate in non-denominational prayer.” We urge each citizen to write his Congressional representative asking that action be taken to strengthen the Constitutional privilege of free exercise of religion in every area of our national life.
