WHEREAS the Supreme Court of the United States has ruled that corporate prayer and Bible reading as religious exercises in public schools are unconstitutional, and

WHEREAS the resulting revolutionary changes in long-established practices are creating a moral and religious vacuum in our educational system and other areas of public life in which secularism, humanism, practical atheism and amorality appear to be threatening the very foundations of our society and the welfare of our nation, and

WHEREAS it has been historically demonstrated that it is possible to allow recognition of God and the invoking of His aid in public functions and ceremonies without violating the Constitution,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the National Association of Evangelicals advocates the enactment of suitable legislation by the Congress of the United States which will strengthen the present provision for the free exercise of religion in our national life and allow reference to, or the invoking of the aid of God, in an governmental or public document, proceeding, activity, ceremony or institution.
