Whereas, our evangelical brethren in Spain continue to suffer from intense discrimination and legal suppression contrary to their inherit rights, and

Whereas, the Spanish government, both at the national and local levels, has followed the policy of open opposition to all evangelical activity, and

Whereas the citizens and the government of the United States have historically followed a policy of supporting the high ideal of religious freedom for minorities as well as majority groups, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the National Association of Evangelicals declare its unalterable opposition to the suppression of the Spanish evangelical minority and urge Christian citizens to communicate with governmental officials, including the Secretary of State, Washington, D.C., and the Ambassador of Spain in the United States in Washington, D.C., with a request for immediate action in stopping such suppression of Spanish Protestants and in the granting of full legal rights in Spain to all citizens. In addition, we urge the government of the United States of America to cease its financial assistance and grants to the government of Spain until such intolerable conditions are corrected.
