Peer pressure and a philosophy of experimentation sanctioned by many educational and religious leaders coupled with an existential view of life and a feeling of rejection and rebellion on the part of many young people have opened the way for them to become involved with drugs.

This use of drugs is sweeping away the moral and spiritual foundations of our society. The whole future of our civilization is at stake at the point of moral integrity.

The National Association of Evangelicals therefore affirms adamant opposition to the illegal traffic in drugs and our strong insistence on adequate legislation and strict enforcement to achieve protection for our children and youth from these forces of evil in our day.

We condemn contemporary arguments that marijuana is harmless and no worse than alcohol. We contend that marijuana and alcohol are both harmful, and are detrimental to the physical, emotional, moral and spiritual health of our society.
