WHEREAS there is constant pressure on the President of the United States to name an envoy to the Vatican, and

WHEREAS such action would violate the “establishment clause” of the First Amendment of our Constitution, and

WHEREAS our regular diplomatic corps in Italy is quite adequate to represent the United States and protect the United States’ interest in Rome,

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the National Association of Evangelicals urges the President of the United States to resist all proposals to send an official envoy in any capacity to the Vatican and preserve our Constitutional provision of separation of church and state.
