As Christians who believe that each human life is made in the image of God and should be treated with dignity, we abhor the crime of human trafficking. The suspension of key provisions of the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (TVPRA) has put vulnerable, unaccompanied minors at increased risk of being trafficked.
Walter Kim, president of the National Association of Evangelicals, joined with leaders from World Relief, International Justice Mission, World Vision U.S., Bethany Christian Services, the National Latino Evangelical Coalition and various other evangelical institutions to send a letter to Ivanka Trump, one of the administration’s most outspoken advocates for victims of human trafficking.
The letter explains how coronavirus-related enforcement changes to TVPRA have exposed children to greater risk of human trafficking. Together the leaders urge the White House to ensure that the provisions of the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act related to unaccompanied children are once again enforced.
