The National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) welcomes the announcement of a peace agreement between Israel and Hamas and the return of hostages after more than two years of captivity.
“Since the October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas on Israel, we have been praying for a just and lasting peace and the safe return of all hostages,” said NAE President Walter Kim. “We mourn the tragic loss of life and destruction of the past two years, and are grateful to God for the return of the remaining hostages and the prospect for peace.”
The NAE commends President Trump and his team for their leadership in negotiations leading to the peace agreement, in partnership with other world leaders.
At this critical moment we call for continued prayer for God’s blessing on all aspects of the peace process, including:
- The peaceful implementation of the agreement by all parties, including the disarmament of the remaining Hamas fighters;
- The provision of urgently needed humanitarian aid for those in Gaza who are sick, wounded and near starvation;
- Guidance for all who are involved in decisions about reconstruction and restoration of a viable future for the Palestinian people;
- The recovery and rehabilitation of the hostages;
- The healing of the grief and trauma experienced by those on both sides of the conflict; and
- Strength for Palestinian and Israeli Christians as they bear witness to the Prince of Peace and seek to bless their neighbors even as they face their own ongoing challenges as a religious minority in both communities.
“We continue to believe that God is sovereign and that he acts in response to his people’s prayers. In this fragile but hopeful moment, we dare to believe that evil will not have the word,” Kim said.
