The United States Senate has passed a joint resolution introduced by Senator Mark O. Hatfield, which proclaims April 30, 1974 as “a National Day of Humiliation, Fasting and Prayer; and calls upon the people of our nation to humble ourselves as we see fit, before our Creator, to acknowledge our final dependence upon Him and to repent of our national sins.”

The National Association of Evangelicals warmly endorses this action by the U. S. Senate, and urges our people to make this the beginning of repeated times when we observe a day of fasting and prayer.

We, therefore, recommend that our churches set aside the last day of each month for the remainder of this year as a time to pray earnestly for our nation and to ask the Lord to give us the spiritual awakening that is sorely needed.
