In recent weeks, the number of unaccompanied children and teenagers arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border has increased dramatically. Under U.S. law, unaccompanied children are to be transferred from the custody of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection to the care of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services within 72 hours. However, this transfer is not happening as expeditiously as the law requires, and children are being held in unacceptable conditions.

Walter Kim, president of the National Association of Evangelicals, joined with leaders from World Relief, the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, the National Latino Evangelical Coalition and various other evangelical institutions to implore President Biden to lead decisively and to ensure that our government respects both the dignity of unaccompanied children and its obligation to comply with the law and ensure secure borders.
