Whereas, many of the early settlers of our new land were moved by a passionate quest for freedom to worship and freedom to teach, and

Whereas, the founding fathers of our republic in order to secure and preserve these liberties made provision for separation of church and state, and

Whereas, this basic American heritage of freedom is imperiled by subtle, insidious trends and influences that dangerously tend toward the state restricting and controlling both religion and education and also certain areas of Christendom seeking to dominate the State, and

Whereas, we view with growing concern acts of government that would control religion and education and policies of church that would dominate government, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the National Association of Evangelicals record its concern for the presentation of our great American heritage of freedom and voice its protest against compromise of the historic principle of separation of church and state.
