Sammy Mah has resigned as President and CEO of World Relief. His resignation, which takes effect Sept. 1, 2010, concludes 5 1/2 years of service and leadership with the Baltimore-based relief and development organization.

During Mah’s administration, he worked to empower the local Church to serve the most vulnerable by successfully guiding organizational improvements, strategic development and missional focus for World Relief. Mah’s previous 27 years of executive experience at General Motors were instrumental in his innovative leadership at World Relief.

“When Sammy came to World Relief, we were in urgent need of financial, operational and missional renovation,” said Scott Arbeiter, Chairman of the World Relief Board of Directors. “We are deeply indebted to him for taking on these massive challenges, providing focused and positive leadership, and guiding us into best practices in each of these areas. Sammy was the right person at the right time.”

Sam Wolgemuth has been elected as the Interim CEO. Wolgemuth served as the Chairman of the World Relief’s Board from 2008 to 2009 and currently chairs the board of Youth for Christ International. Wolgemuth also served as President and CEO of Freedom Communications, Inc.

World Relief exists to empower the local Church to serve the most vulnerable. Formed as the War Relief Commission in 1944 by the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE), the organization became World Relief when it expanded services beyond World War II victims. Today, World Relief works in more than 20 nations on four continents with a focus on economic development, AIDS prevention and care, maternal and child health, child development, disaster response, refugee resettlement and immigrant services.
