For many months the nation has been shocked by scandalous conduct involving high government officials at both the state and federal level. The growing list of those indicted or convicted includes judges, legislators, a mayor of a large city, former governor, and high level federal officials.

We deplore dishonesty and other criminal acts wherever they occur, whether in business, professional circles, or in government. Such wrongdoing is especially reprehensible when it is found among those who hold a place of trust and honor in our government.

We believe that national integrity demands of all those holding offices of public trust that they not only conduct themselves in a manner which avoids the appearance of evil, but that they also be quick to seek out and expose those who may be guilty of wrongdoing.
